Types of Poker, its basic rules and strategies

Poker is an umbrella term that encompasses several different types of games. While all the variants are not very popular, they all follow in the following broad categories. They are:

  • Classic Poker: here, you play against different players. Each player is given five cards that are hidden from other players. The rules say that the players will try and get the best hand through a series of betting against the other players and then trading with them. The highest hand is called a royal flush.
  • Texas Hold ‘em: this is an extremely popular variant. Two cards are given to the player face down, while five cards are placed on the table for everyone to see. In the course of a game, any player is free to bet or even raise the bet, to fold and even to check after each round of betting. This is a popular choice when you play Poker for free.
  • Omaha Ppoker: this is similar to the previous variant, and is free to play online. Each player is dealt four cards and is allowed to use only two when making their hand. There are five community cards, and the player is allowed to use three of these. This is a great choice as it offers many bonuses.
  • Russian Poker: here, every player including the dealer is given five cards. The dealer’s last card, however, is visible to everyone. Players can choose to fold or bet the ante twice. He or she can also buy a sixth card or even exchange his cards. The cost of replacement, however, increases.
  • Video Poker: this is a variation of the five-card draw Poker. Gamblers play on an electronic computerized console. After entering their ticket, the players are dealt five cards by the electronic dealer. The ticket can be exchanged with the cards in the deck played. These are excellent for those, who like the idea of playing without registration.
