There are a lot of strategies for Roulette, where there’s at least one zero sector on the wheel. We will cover only the most well-known as they are the basis for many current strategies.
The main goal of any Roulette strategy is to reduce the probability of having one or the other expected number, and this is the only factor that the player can influence.
BET STRATEGY: MARTINGALE
This system has been known to gamblers since the time of the gallant 18th century, and is thought to be created by the players from the south coast of France. The basis of it is quite simple: before the start of the game, the player places a bet on one of the outside bets on the table. The probability of winning by betting outside is significantly higher than on the inside. This is because when betting on either a dozen or on all even numbers, the probability of success varies between 30% and 50%. If the first bet won, excellent! You can raise the bet slightly and play again, but this time wager your money on the opposite colour. However, because players in Roulette mostly use series of bets, the best approach is to double the bet after each lost round as if to compensate for the loss. Such approach brings good results.
Let’s examine a series of bets: you bet £50 on black. Let’s say, you lost. Double the bet to £100 and leave it on black. You lost again? Now leave the bet on black and throw in £200 in the game, and, say, this time we win. We get £200 payout as a prize. We lost £150 on bets, won £200, so you get an extra £50 as a win. Quite addictive, isn’t it?
However, it’s not favourable winds and clear seas as it seems for Martingale. Simple probability theory tells us that heads prevails over tails, and the ratio of these odds is 51% to 49%. So when using this system for playing, it’s recommended to play five to ten rounds maximum: only playing short series can make you increase your winnings.
Bet strategy, Parley
This strategy is the opposite of Martingale. It’s played the other way around. Here the player focuses on the ’money follows money’ principle. You bet on the outside, and it the bet loses, the same bet is made, but on the opposite colour or odds. If this bet wins, then the player needs to build his own sequence of success. After winning on one colour, the player doubles his bet and bets on the same colour again. If the bet wins, the process is repeated. Similarly to Martingale strategy, it’s best to play short series of rounds and start small.
DYNAMICS OF COLOUR IN DONALDSON: NATANSON SYSTEM
Before we can talk about the size of the bet and it can depend on the colour, it’s necessary to touch upon the principles that the increase of bet size is based on, regardless of colours. The rule for increasing or decreasing the size of bet is as follows: the player selects a fixed size of bet for the game and then, depending on the outcome of the game, the bet is increased or decreased by this amount. If the first round loses, the player should leave the game and come back in a short while. As for the colour dynamics of the bet, mathematical calculations have shown that depending on the colour of the winning bet, the next size bet should change depending on colour. So, when a red sector has won, the bet should be decreased by nominal amount, and if a black has been rolled, the bet should increase by nominal amount. If a zero was rolled, the bets are inverted – so bets on black are decreased, bets on red are increased by nominal amount.
Experimental game strategies
These are called experimental because the application of these depends on the data that the player would get after trying these out by practising in free play or by jumping in at the deep end and testing these in a real game.
Full circle strategy
One of these training strategies is the so-called ’full circle strategy.’ It’s played as follows: the player spins the wheel the number of times, this number is based on the total number of sectors on the wheel. For American Roulette this is 38, for classic and European – 37, for the Roulette without zero – 36. After each roll, the number rolled is recorded. The player needs to do three full circles to have a good set of data, so he will need a list of 111 numbers for European Roulette. Out of these 111, the player picks a number that that rolled at least 5 times, and all bets are made on that number afterwards.
Replacement strategy
This is a simple, but effective strategy. The player writes down numbers from 1 to 10. Before determining the size of the bet, he adds together two outside numbers. For a win, these numbers are deleted from the list, and the next two outside numbers are added together. If the bet was useless, then 11 is added to the last number on the list. The numbers are added again and again, with bets being made until all numbers have been crossed out.
It’s necessary to remember that the size of the bet is limited by the casino, and so, it’s possible to modify this approach in the following way: after selecting the amount the player plans to win, he has to write down the list of numbers, which are of the same order, with total amount of numbers being equal to the number of rounds that the player plans to win the amount specified. The game is then carried out, with outside numbers added together. In case of a loss, instead of 11 being added to the last number, the player puts another number on his list. This goes on until all numbers have been crossed out.
All these strategies are commonly used and can be applied to any type of Roulette. They all depend on strict mathematical rules. The player is trying to narrow down the interval of the expected average value without actually trying to guess or figure it out. As the size of this interval depends on the type of the Roulette game played, the method is applicable to all variations of the game. However, it’s up to the player to decide if this is something he is willing to use.
