This type of Poker has started to gain popularity during the previous century. It has first appeared in the seventies in the United States and could be considered the one with the largest following, while many gambling enthusiasts organise Texas Hold’em tournaments. Overall, a group of up to 9-10 players assembles the five-card combinations over the duration of five founds. A 52 card deck is used, and the gambler with the highest value combination wins.
There are various types of bets, and the game can be:
- Limit-only – when the bet size can’t go above a set value;
- With pot-limit – when the range of the bets can’t exceed the pot, or of the common bank;
- No limit – in this case, the range of bets can only be limited by the resources available to the player;

Start of the game – preflop
The game starts with two players to the left of the dealer. They place blind bets, and by tradition, first player places a small blind (1/2 of the minimal bet), with the next player placing a big blind (minimal bet). This is done to start filling the bank that will be increasing over the course of the game, and will be given to the winner as a payout.
After the bank is established, everyone receive two cards, or preflop, and these are kept hidden. The player can decide if the hand is worth playing, and if they like the cards, the bets are placed, starting from the player next to the big blind position. The minimal bet can’t be below the big blind, and afterwards the bets go up (raise, or in case of a double raise – re-raise), or remain equal to the previous blind (call). The player leaving the game passes the betting. The round could be repeated once to three times depending on the bet sizes. Afterwards, the game enters the next phase.
Flop – cards out
Next batch of cards is placed on the table, face down. These cards in the centre of the table are called a flop, which is there for all the players. The next round of betting starts, and the first bet comes from the player to the left of the bank, with the same options for the round.
Turn – the golden middle
During this stage another card is dealt, and the next round of betting starts. If the bet size is limited, then the size of the risk taken can be doubled. Afterwards the next stage is set.
River – final line
The last card is added to the common line, and the players enter the heat of action.
IIn the last part of Texas Hold’em, the player assembles an individual combination using the preflop and the cards on the table, and the best hand wins. The lucky gambler nets the pot assembled over the course of all five rounds. Sometimes all players have an equal hand, without preflop, and in this case the money is shared between everyone taking part in the game.
