This is the original game that gave birth to all the different varieties that are available today. Classic Roulette is frequently referred to as ’French Roulette,’ and it has its reasons. The origin of the word itself came from French ’roulette,’ which means ’wheel.’ There are also versions that attribute the introduction of the rotating horizontal disk to one of the brightest minds of the Renaissance, Blez Pascal, and his search for the perpetual mobile. Then, as we know, it was finalized by the eighteenth century. There are some documents that state that the game was banned in Quebec in 1758.
Make your bets
The main feature that differentiates varieties of Roulette from each another is the total number of sectors that the wheel is divided in as well as the number of zero-sectors, types of bets and payout options.
Classic Roulette game has 37 sectors, which are located in a specific set order, with sectors from 1 to 37 coloured in the alternating red and black colors. The zero sector is highlighted in green. All terms and markings in this game are in French.
Depending on the location on the table, the bets could be divided into:
Inside bets – when bets are made on the particular numbers of the wheel. In this case, the risk could be allocated to one, two, three, four or six numbers.
Outside bets – when bets are made on the special field next to the numbers, with bets on dozen (12 numbers), column (12 numbers), odd or even numbers (18 numbers), colour (18 numbers) or on the range (1 to 18, or 19 to 36).
In addition to the bets listed above, there are also bets made orally, when the bet is made on the certain combination of numbers instead of the fields on the table.
Game flow
The house is represented by a croupier – or a dealer, responsible for accepting the bets and spinning the wheel. After it is spinned, the croupier sends the ball rolling, which must do at least three rounds around the table before stopping in one of the coloured sectors with a number. If the player has staked his fortune on this number, casino pays out. If the zero is rolled, half of all bets goes to the casino if they were made on colour, size of number or odd / even, and in all other cases, 100% of the bet is lost.
The size of the payout depends on the number of bets made. If the player makes just a single bet, the maximum payout would be equal to 35 to 1, or 35 times the bet.
The probability of a win is inversely proportional to the number of bets. For a single bet, it is equal to 1 in 35. As the number of bets increases, the size of payouts actually grows smaller.
