Design of a fruit machine could be both classic and modern, and it is true regarding the insides – even with all the improvements and the beginning of the digital era, the traditional reel machines are still going strong, even online, where programs imitate either three- or five-reel slots.
How do they work?
Different symbols are located on the reels, and these can be varied based on the theme of the game. The range of symbols also varies and can include empty spaces. The more reels there are, the larger the paylines, and more symbols are required for the same winning combination.
The most widely used machines have either three of five reels. The game starts after the bet is made and a line is selected; three-reel slots sometimes provide options to select extra lines to bet extra, but these also have a higher probability of a win than slots that offer five reels. The controls of any fruit machine are the same as in classic gambling machines:
- ’Spin’ – starts the game;
- 'Bet' – select the bet size;
- 'N-Lines' – the number of lines in the game (where winning combination could also be assembled on the central and additional lines);
- ’Line number 1 (2, 3, etc)’ – this button allows the player to select the number of lines used for determining the outcome;
- 'Collect' – stops the game and removes the deposit
Deciphering the jackpot
Similarly to other types of machines in casino, fruit machines provide an option of winning a jackpot when a maximum bet is placed on the maximum number of lines. Winning combinations would be different depending on the theme and symbol types, and these are usually shown in the table above or under the game menu.
