Initiatives to legalise gambling in Japan have been developed further after the International Olympic Committee has confirmed Tokyo as a host for 2020 Summer Olympic Games. A new law to make gambling official (and thus allow Japan to squeeze extra income from the Olympic visitors) will soon be introduced to the parliament.
It looks like the gambling industry will become legal years before the preparations for the Olympic games start. Official casinos will be opened not only in large cities, such as Tokyo, but also in local regional centres, and the owners will need to get an approval from the local authorities. The number of casinos is going to be strictly limited.
The casinos are going to appear in large population centres, such as Tokyo and Osaka. Experts believe that the move will bring Japan over $10 billion every year (or over a trillion and a half yen).
