According to the new Act, each of the individual US states could legalize online Poker and provide licenses to Poker rooms if they comply with a set of requirements. The Burton’s Act, which is a 102-page document, has a stringent list of requirements for Internet casinos.
First of all, each Poker room that is hoping to obtain a license in USA must ban the adolescent and addicted from the game. When taking bets from these categories of users, the owners of the establishment would be breaking the law and would have to pay a fine of $1 million. Secondly, the casino must prevent money laundering via gambling with real money.
Currently the Act is in discussion in the Congress, and it is not clear if it would become a law any time soon as online Poker has a lot of enemies in the US. For example, representatives of the police and other government services are strictly against online Poker as it offers a lot of opportunities for money laundering.
How would the law apply to an average gambler? Well, first of all, US residents would have an opportunity to enjoy their favourite game within the law in the casinos that would be licensed. Currently no one is jailing the US citizens for betting online, however, it is quite difficult to deposit money into an online Poker account or to withdraw winnings if you are in the States.
